The History of English
67 countries have English as their official language, and many more use it as a lingua franca or business language. There are around 1.5 billion people who speak English as a first or second language. The spread of English throughout the world can be traced back to Colonialism. By imposing English on colonized populations, colonial powers were able to assert dominance over local resources, economies and institutions.
