Addiction Medicine and Psychiatry - What's the Difference?
Many of our patients may return to use, but often they don't know that it was specifically the injection drug use that led to their episode of endocarditis. So we really try to emphasize that and our addiction team helps with that. As a pharmacist, I love taking the opportunity to work with addiction medicine on how we can use antimicrobials alongside medications for opioid use disorder. It allows me to discuss possible drug interaction side effects with the primary team.
