In June of 1910, New Orleans was hot and human. The only real relief came from paper fans or chips from ice blocks or a dip in the Mississippi. Folks in Louisiana had a host of options to cope with that irritation - including drugs and alcohol,. Our patrons in the city would buy rye whiskey, cognac and absinthe in very large amounts. They would then spill onto the streets and encounter inexperienced and underpaid police officers who tried their best to round them all up.
