You can get about two millimeters of vertical height, so it's not meant to be like a vertical height gain. maxillary block rafts in my hands are way more successful than mandibular. And then it gets even harder when you go posterior mandible. Typically people are missing 19 or 30 and then the tissue is a lot of mobile tissue and they have 18 and 20. The thin tissue may be having to do a perioste or release on the lingual which is complicated.
