Fox used the same trick that helped 90210 significantly grow its audience. Melrose Place received praise for including the black character, played by Vanessa A. Williams. The show's opening credits introduced viewers to the cast of mostly unknown 20-somethings. Like Beverly Hills 902 and Odea, I think this started out as much more like, it's gonna be 20-something in California,. Then it was like nobody cares about the actual struggles of actual Angelenos.
