Cognitive dissonance is the discomfort of self-image colliding with reality. In an intimate relationship, a partner may not be receiving the same type of love that they give to everyone else. Instead of asking what's wrong with your partner, ask what in me is making it hard for me to be compassionate right now. The answer will almost always be that it's easy to understand that inside of you, why shouldn't I be?
