Music's Emotional Power Is Part of the Constraints
Musical scales have a limited number of tones, which creates again a constraint in the way that language is constrained. People who are listening to what we're expressing musically can make predictions about what's going to happen next. So I think that part of a music's emotional power is that because of the constraints, it's participatory. Listeners are going along for the ride and the brain is making predictions about what’s going to come next.
