The Different Types of Avocados
The avocado is a climactic fruit which matures on the tree but ripens off the tree. Avocados used in commerce are picked hard and green and kept in coolers at 3.3 to 5.6 degree centigrade until they reach their final destination. The species is only partially able to self pollinate because of dichogamy in its flowering. Most cultivars are propagated by grafting having originated from random seeding plants or myelom mutations derived from cultivars.
