Building a Server Rack for the Early in Career?

I want to encourage people to build their own racks, but it's not required to be a coder. Not everyone can afford a half server rack behind them. This is something I've decided to do almost as a way for me to keep my sanity during my day job. How do we get $50,000 worth of hardware in front of someone who maybe just wants to tinker with it without the fear or risk of taking down somebody's production service?
