The Persecution of Christians in Leon
Christians were hated by many pagans in the first and much of the second century. Another violent persecution broke out in present day leon in one 77, during the emperorship of marcus aurelius. The persecution followed anti christian riots taking place while the governor was away. Contrary to trajan's line, a general search for christians was initiated. Eusebius recounts a particularly graphic story of a christian named sanctus, who had burning brass plates fixed to his most delicate parts but stubbornly refused to reveal that he was a Christian.
