The Legend of Frankie Lyman

In 1992, Santiago and Merchant finally won the credit for having written Why the Fools Fall in Love. They'd apparently waited too long to take legal action over having their songs stolen. Frankie Lyman wasn't alive to get the money, but his widow was,. or rather his widow's plural were. That third wife eventually won the various legal battles, and is now in charge of the Frankie Lyman legacy. The song has gone on to be a standard, recorded by everyone from Joni Mitchell to the Beach Boys to Diana Ross.
