The origins of Jerusalem is a tricky topic for an archaeologist to sink your teeth into. The editor at Oxford tried to persuade me to write the book for years, really, literally. And I resisted because anybody who knows anything about the history and archaeology of Jerusalem would never agree to write a book like this. But it turned out to be more detailed than I would have originally conceived of for a trade book. "It's not like an easy light read," says Joe Blogs' David Frum.
