The Status of Yunnan Province in the El Nino Cycle

China's coal-fired power plants are mostly concentrated along the southeast coastline and clustered around Beijing and Shanghai. But its massive hydro-electricity program is mostly centered around the Sichuan Basin in the southwest, in Yunnan province. There are more than 40 hydro-electric power stations here, generating a huge amount of electricity for Guangdong. The situation shows little signs of recovering even as the region enters the rainy season in June.
