Gene flow across these big spaces in very sparse populations made a big difference to their evolution, you know, that it's measurable. It is interesting in that vein that we don't have much evidence at all of the reverse direction. We do not see substantial Denisovan input into the Neanderthal populations in Europe. There's something interesting about the fact that it's the modern lineage where the integrations are making a big difference and maybe that's functional.
