Introduction
Leslie Geddes is an assistant professor of art history at Tulane University. Her new book Watermarks, Leonardo da Vinci and the mastery of nature will be published by Princeton University Press in August 2020. It shows how Leonardo applied his pictorial genius to water to render the natural world in all its richness and constant change. From drawings for mobile bridges and underwater breathing apparatuses to plans for water management schemes, Leonardo had a deep interest in the technical aspects of water.
