There was a lot of optimism and energy, you know, on that part of the left. Even if you weren't necessarily of the trotskys persuasion, you could see the movements as having the potential to open up something genuinely novel. There was an element of the spirit of 68 being reborn here. And so there was some optimism about that. Now, i think thater, it's worth sort of keeping open the fact that that didn't have to be defeated.
