Napoleon's First Battle, a Destroyer

Napoleon's rear guard was killed or captured, and the sard ndians headed for the beach. Napoleon ordered his men to stop their work, heave the mortar into the sea and board the ship. After another arduous crossing, over 200 men were dead, several hundred more wounded, and another dozen or so taken prisoner. All the artillery was lost, and that gunboat, on loan from the navy, would be out of commission for months. So there you have it, napoleon's first battle, a defeat.
