The Effect of the Novel on Mental Health
The sensation novels of the 1860s were seen as corrupting and could lead to misbehavior in the person who's reading it. There was a concern that they might turn your brain and that would be terrible. It stems from the 18th century Gothic novels. And we can see this playing out when people look at video games or films or music influencing how someone behaves.
