When did you start to get a sense of the real depth of this relationship and its implications? Well, that really started in graduate school. I would go down the hall and talk to the oldest anthropologists in the department about various things. They all had these amazing stories and very little of this had been written about. You know, 40 years is sort of history but it's not like it's ancient history.
