What's the Political Incentive to Launch a Counter Offensive in Ukraine?

Some people are talking about competing political and military incentives for the timing and launching of such a counter offensive. The first issue was the concern that russia might cure son and begin to consolidate political control. Second is the perception, or perhaps perception, that lok, ultimately, western support to some extent, is finite. So how the situation plays out in the coming months, i'm uncertain.
