Loop quantum gravity says, maybe the universe is not continuous in space. In loop quantum gravity, if space has no minimum distance, a bunch of calculations do give nonsense results. So it sort of saves the whole theory have these minimum values. The same arguments can be used in luquanum gravity to argue for minimum steps in time. And i actually asked carlo revelli about this yesterday. He said that he would be very surprised if anything that included time as a measurement could really have a continuous spectrum.
