Vivisection became more common with the progression of scientific medicine, particularly in the 19th century. One practice that was responsible for the development of an entire animal rights movement and it's one we've already mentioned, vivisection. Even autopsy on human corpses drew strong condemnation, right? So it shouldn't be shocking that vivisected was controversial.
