Raft and Paxos - Is There a Leader?
In Paxos, anybody can become leader. Any of the servers can be a new leader. And during the leadership election process, they learn about things that were decided in the past so that they don't contradict those decisions. Whereas in Raft, we say, you can only become a leader if you're already up to date. So the way that we implement this is when you're becoming a leader, you need votes from a majority of servers and a server will only vote for you if you are more up to date or as up to date as it is.
