The book is about the cultural economy that grew between west africa and india. By the 19 twenties, this economy had constructed a sense of kinship between africans and moslems in particular. During the colonial period, m africans questioned whether indians really accepted them as equals am. The independence era seemed to bring failure, or at least more tension and more suspicion to african indian relations than had actually existed before.
