Zoster has an appearance that is not usually hard to miss. Most commonly it's on the thorax but really any dermatome could be infected. The ones that we're most concerned about are the ones that would involve the eye so that would be in the trigeminal nerve or the ear. Those are the two where the damage to the nerve is going to be painful and I'll get to that in a minute.
