The sudden mob demonstration of june twentieth only further fractured domestic unity. The radical leaders in paris believed the king was an enemy, the generals traitors and the monarchy itself a threat to the nation. Lafayette also signalled his displeasure with the situation to the parisians themselves when he sent that letter to the legislative assembly demanding that they suppress seditious political clubs.
