The novelization of the film Amistad is written by Alex Pei, who also wrote the script. The book starts in Africa and Cinque kills a lion to save his village from attack. In the movie, Africans kill Spanish sailors but don't know if they are slaves or free people. "It's an African-American story, not a white liberal, Savior story," says Du Bois.
