Sulla's Arrogance in Athens
Greece sacked thebes and many other cities under massive indemnity. The old Macedonian overlords of Greece never would have reacted so viciously. Sulla could point out that this was the long-standing Roman way of dealing with traitors, reward friends lavishly but those who don't keep faith in their commitments, punish them with cold savagery.
