Robert McGarby: A Prison Graduate
Robert McGarby was arrested for subversive speech in 1964 and spent 10 years in jail. He escaped into neighboring Mozambique, where he became a key figure in the country's liberation movement. The Zimbabwe African National Union (Zanu) party won elections in 1980 but later lost them to an opposition party led by Joshua Como. Robert McGarby went on to become one of South Africa's most prominent political leaders.
