When doing some of the transcript work for the News and Tax website, I had added a method onto the global console in Node. But it could be an issue if they ever do decide to make whatever method I used and add it to the console. There's definitely a genre of programmer who will really not like the idea of patching. And you might also work with somebody who, if you suggested patching, would lose their cool with it.
