What Is a Metalloid?

Silicon with no silent E at the end is a chemical element on the periodic table. It is a metalloid, meaning it's kind of like a metal, but also kind of not. If you Google image search pure silicon, it literally looks metalloid. The electrons in metals are not all bound up with a single atom or in a covalent bond between atoms.
