The first chip, which is multiple transistors on a single piece of silicon, wasn't invented until the end of the 1950s. In 1958, Texas Instruments outside of Dallas was the place where the first chip was invented. Today, individual transistors are much larger in general than lots of tiny transistors put on chips.
