Local Government

Local government doesn't have choices about the level of growth that they accept and my experiences with Auckland. The first thing we did was draft up the Auckland plan, which set out for how the entire region would be developed in a little bit more organised and connected. So at one level, councils have a really big idea of how that Jexel puzzle fits together. Where the complexity comes in is the ability to control some of that. Central government keep very grumpy with local government when we say, well, maybe not here is a good idea because they're pretty driven to get those houses built. But we're also driven to make sure that communities thrive without public transport, amenity and auctions
