Seth Godin: Why do people write history? You could be writing it just like herodotus, writing about what's going on at the time. Or you could be writing reflective history, which is hoping to learn from the past. He doesn't introduce the concept of the state until quite a bit on te the essay. But therehe you get gradations here. So that society can be more or less free. And so he does mean that, but that's a sense in whichwe we conced.
