Introduction
Hard Words is an audio documentary I produced four years ago. Jack Silva was the chief academic officer for the public schools in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He noticed that many of his kids were not reading well. Kim Harper says a disturbing number of her students were not very good readers. They didn't like to read and avoided reading because it was too hard.
