The History of Guano Island
Clipperton Island is about two miles long, but from the air it's almost non-existent. The island was one of many that were mined to support a growing need for guano. This guano would primarily be used to manufacture gunpowder and fertilizer. In 1910, Mexico put 13 soldiers on a ship and transported them to Clipperton where they would do their part in maintaining Mexican rule there.
