The Benefits of Memorizing a Book of the Bible
When you memorize, let's say a whole passage or a book of the Bible, you're hearing it as the original audience did. Even if you don't know how to recite it verbatim 10 years from now, you'll have that closeness that comes from having studied it so closely in your memorization. A friend of our ministry who memorized the entire book of Romans found that even though his word-perfect accuracy may have declined, he has a permanent intimacy with that book because he memorized it. It's kind of like when you're traveling through a town and you say, wait a second, I remember that gas station and that side street.
