The Importance of Reading the Bible Literally

In the past 100 years, this phrase I read the Bible literally has come to represent a very specific reading strategy. Reading things in the Bible as myth, metaphor or parable would be a way to give into secular culture. When we read Jesus as parables, those are quite obviously parable. So it's okay not to read those literally but that doesn't mean you read all of the Bibleliterally.
