Rails can only help you in the beginning and beyond that, it's up to you to structure your own code. Service objects as they are typically done don't really add that much structure,. So don't look to that as a code organization solution because it's really not. I think today, if you were to write a Ruby gem right now, it's all you, where are you going to put that file? What's the directory going to be? Generally speaking, because you could do just a gems fact in a Ruby file, it is doable to ship a Ruby gem.
