The History of Netscape
Microsoft low-balling Netscape and getting sent away was conflated by the sense of opportunity, real opportunity. And that's why they did the deal with some microsystems to license Java and put the Java sort of runtime into the Netscape browser. So when I hired, it wasn't Scheme anymore. Do we need a second language at all? Okay, maybe we need a language, but it's got to look like Java. That's what became JavaScript. It's about the only thing from that era that's really making a lot of sense now.
