I was working at the Manchester Evening News in 2005. I happened to break my leg playing football so I was off work and it was the Guardian Jobs website of all things. And there was a vacancy for Associated Press which is the American news agency. So where did you start with sport, with crime or with corruption? It's funny, as a kid I wanted to be a sports reporter but when I grew up I thought there were kind of serious things in the world too.
