For many years, people did not dare to study consciousness because how do you study that unobservable? Christoph Koch puts forward this idea of looking for the neural correlates of consciousness. A large research program was launched. And so now we're at a situation where we have theories. They actually make very nice predictions, but in some sense, contradictory predictions.
