The Vigrancy Act of 1824

Helen Duncan, Francis Brown, and Mr. and Mrs. Homer were all arrested after a police raid in 1940s England. They were charged under the Vigrancy Act of 1824 which was most often used to prosecute people who were conducting seances. The maximum sentence for offenses related to fortune telling was three months in prison; most people just paid a fine.
