The Civil Disorders of 1967
The kerner commission was formally known as the national sory commission on civil disorders. It was established by president lindon johnson during a period of widespread unrest in the united states, beginning in the early 19 sixties. Between 19 65 and 19 67, there were more than 300 incidents in more than 250 cities. One of the most well known incidents took place in the watts neighborhood of los angeles from august eleventh through sixteenth 19 65. In watts, at least 34 people died and more than a thousand injured, most of them black residents of the neighborhood. Hundreds of buildings burned to the ground.
