The Variability of Training for the Marathon
I think the variation of what's needed for the marathon is so much greater than on the track for 10k, 5k, 1500 whatever have you. It's almost like a different sport in a lot of ways because it's no longer training for this one big limiter and then a couple other small lemons that might pop up on race day. Even if you've done all that work and you've done it meticulously and you prepared deliberately and you've had no hiccups or anything you get there on race day and there's still so much that can go wrong over the course of those two to three hours.
