The Impotence of the UN

Kofi Annan exemplified the moral persuasion of the United Nations in a way which perhaps no sector general, since Doug Hammerschull perhaps, has ever done. He had great moral authority and brought that to bear on a whole range of different situations. And with how much success? That's the question. I'm just wondering whether he almost stands as a tragic human embodiment of the impotence of the UN. Or perhaps you could transfer that into a wider sphere and say he embodies the natural failure of the human race to solve its own problems through political discussion and avoiding war. No world war has happened since the United Nations was founded. But we're beginning to look at the edges
