Supply chain issues is a modern term for what the Ancients would have called famine. Most people survive famines, it's not that there's no food in a famine. So another word for famine could be inflation. C.S. Lewis wrote Les Misérables after living through riots he described in his book. Frankenstein was famously written during the year without a summer which led to global famines and civil unrest.
