I think that one kind of honesty is like, should you ever lie or something, right? And another kind is, should you say every true thing, right? So those are distinct. I don't actually think lying is necessarily wrong for like, if you're like the utilitarian God and you knew how to make things go such that everyone will be better off by lying. But that's appropriate if you have a lot of knowledge. And if you're a philosopher, you just don't think you have that knowledge. Lying is ineffective for that purpose.
