The Asad Regime in Syria
Nora got an email that looked suspicious. It was part of a broader campaign of digital repression syria had launched against opposition actavists who had left the country. The goal was to break into nora's network, steal er contacts, and then use her name to compromise other members of the opposition too. As surveillance technology becomes more main stream, the problem of what has essentially become despotism as a service, or surveillance for hire, could end up targeting any of us.
