Lessons Learned From the Killy Fish Story
Killy fish have massive population sizes and levels of genetic diversity on par with insects. The more genetically diverse your population is, the more likely you're going to hold a winning hand of cards if the environment changes suddenly. So I think that this is more appropriately interpreted as a cautionary story, right? We've got the species that have evolved against all odds in this radically human altered environment. And so with the goal of understanding how they did it, our goal is to understand why it's so hard for everything else.
